Financial support for studying abroad
Travelling while you study can be life-changing — and it doesn’t have to be financially out of reach. The resources on this page can help you cover costs like transportation, tuition and living expenses.
Queen Elizabeth Scholars program
The Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships were created to help young leaders make a difference at home and abroad. As an NIC student, you'll take part in projects or full semester exchanges in New Zealand or Mexico that focus on the impacts of colonization on Indigenous lands, cultures, communities and ecosystems.
To be eligible:
- You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and be 35 years old or younger at the time of application
- You must receive academic and/or co-curricular credit from your home institution upon completing a study abroad experience
- You must remain enrolled at your home institution throughout the duration of the exchange experience
- You must be enrolled in the second, third or fourth year of your program
- If you were previously awarded QES funding, you aren't eligible
Check with NIC's Office of Global Engagement for the full eligibility requirements.
One World International Scholarships
These scholarships are run through the BC Scholarship Society and can support you taking a study or work-abroad program that provides you with language or cultural training or that offers you credits towards completing your program.
Erasmus+ scholarships
The Erasmus+ scholarships are funded by the European Union to support international education, training and exchange. These scholarships offer non-European students the chance to study in Europe, with funding that typically covers tuition, travel and living costs while promoting academic and cultural exchange. At NIC, accessing an Erasmus+ scholarship can allow you to spend a semester at one of our partner schools:
- Zealand Academy in Denmark
- Transylvania University in Brașov, Romania
- UCLL in Belgium
University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific
University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) is a consortium of post-secondary institutions and partners who aim to increase study abroad opportunities for students in the Asia Pacific region. Awards are administered by the UMAP International Secretariat, currently hosted at Vancouver Community College with support from Global Affairs Canada.
Other opportunities
If you’re taking part in a specialized exchange program, you may be able to access financial supports such as government or industry-supported programs. This funding can cover costs like travel and accommodation. Check with your instructor or designated contact for more information.
