Fund your travels
Financial support for studying abroad
Travelling while you study doesn’t have to be financially out of reach. The organizations below offer funding opportunities for your studies through the year.
Global Skills Opportunity
Global Skills Opportunity is funded by the Government of Canada, administered jointly by Colleges and Institutes Canada and Universities Canada and delivered to students via their post-secondary institution through multi-year projects. The aim of the program is to reduce the barriers for students across the country to participate in international learning opportunities.
NIC will receive two Global Skills Opportunity grants for the 2021 to 2025 period to develop a versatile and sustainable study abroad program.
The Learning and Working Together to Build 2026 project received $500,000 to build on NIC’s expertise in international exchange opportunities to provide diverse opportunities for experiential and place-based learning. Meanwhile, the Passage from Northwest Canada: Students from Northern BC, Yukon and Northwest Territories Go Global project has received $700,000 to offer students from a group of five post-secondary institutions across northwestern Canada to the opportunity to create new joint international learning opportunities.
Both projects will focus on four key themes related to Indigenization, decolonization, internationalization and environmental sustainability and both will prioritize encouraging students that traditionally have not engaged in outbound mobility to travel and learn abroad.
