Student aid

StudentAid BC helps students access loans, grants and other programs to pay for their post-secondary education.

StudentAid BC loans are available for full-time and part-time students. Applications open every June for the next academic year (August to the following July).

Full-time students can use StudentAid BC loans and grants to cover tuition, books and living costs while they're in school.

Part-time students are normally eligible for grants that can cover the direct costs of school, such as tuition and books.

We support our alumni too! If you are repaying a StudentAid BC loan and have questions, please get in touch with us by booking an appointment further down on the page. You can also manage your student aid repayment through the National Student Loans Service Centre.

Upgrading grant

You may be eligible to have your expenses, including fees and books, covered by a StudentAid BC upgrading grant.

Please email us your application at financialaid@nic.bc.ca. You can also drop off your completed form to Student Services.

Nursing tuition credit

The Nursing Tuition Grant program was developed through the Ministry of Health’s Health Human Resource Strategy. It's designed to attract and retain students in nursing education programs and help fill key health workforce gaps across the province.

If you are enrolled in NIC's Practical Nursing DIploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (regular stream or option C), a tuition credit will be applied to your account. You do not need to apply for this grant.

Emergency aid

If you’re an NIC student and facing unexpected circumstances, you may be eligible for a needs-based emergency bursary. Email advising@nic.bc.ca for more information.

Former youth in care

If you were formerly in care in BC, you may be able to receive financial assistance for tuition and other expenses related to your education. Advisors can help you apply for tuition waivers, future grants and refer you to other supports available.

Out-of-province aid

Some students who haven't lived in BC for 12 months need to apply for student aid through another province.

NIC financial aid advisors can help you determine if you qualify for student aid in BC or in a different province. Visit the National Student Loans Services Centre for more information.

There are resources to help you pay for school.
